Community Development Trust
The $129-million Community Development Trust, a federally-funded, provincially-operated program, was launched in 2008. It provides assistance to workers and communities impacted by the downturn in the forest industry.
Assistance is being provided through three programs. The Transition Assistance Program is designed to assist older workers moving to retirement. The Tuition Assistance Program offers forest workers facing layoff opportunities to upgrade their skills, knowledge and education. And the Job Opportunities Program creates short-term work in or near resource-dependent communities in order to assist impacted resource workers.
